KFC franchisee debuts new prototype
10/22/2025
KBP Brands, KFC’s largest franchisee, this week opened a new prototype restaurant, located in Hillsdale, Mich. The 1,671-square-foot restaurant is optimized for drive-thru, carryout, and digital orders, and has limited seating.
The franchisee said it's the first prototype of its kind in KFC’s domestic system. Rich Wilkinson, KBP’s senior director of construction and facilities, said the new building style is about 30% smaller than KFC’s American Showman prototype, which is the most common restaurant style KBP has built in recent years.
To cater to the increase in off-premises orders, the restaurant includes digital ordering kiosks. A second restaurant of this style will open in Arcade, NY., later this year.
KBP celebrated the restaurant’s grand opening earlier this week with a bucket giveaway. Additional promotions throughout opening week include a three-piece chicken tenders combo for $5.99 or an eight-piece meal for $18.99, only valid at the Hillsdale location.
KBP owns more than 800 KFC locations.
Notably, KFC is also testing a new design, called “KFC Original,” in other markets including Orlando, Fla. The prototype includes features such as digital menu boards, digital ordering kiosks, upgraded kitchen technology, new décor, new uniforms, and an updated drive-thru experience.
